I’m about to take part in my first webinar, and I am as shy and flustered as a lassie on her first date. There is so much to learn:
How to spell it: I thought until I typed the last sentence it was a webinair – you know, something that came through the air in the mysterious fashion that most things do these days. My spell check corrected to webinar and then I got it, it’s a seminar on the web. So why not a webonar?
You need the right ‘thing’: Seems webinars don’t run well on Safari. So, I spent valuable time downloading another of these ‘things’ (I am not sure exactly what those ‘things’ are, and I can’t be bothered finding out). Anyway, this ‘thing’ plants a sweet fox curled up on the bottom of my screen, but I don’t trust it yet – foxes may look cute, but they are destructive and unpredictable.
You have to redo all your passports and bookmarks: Because the familiar way you had it all working on Safari has to be redone and the Fox doesn’t keep any of your important tools in the same place. I’m running around like a scared chicken trying to find them.
I’m told I need more hardware: I have no idea why the internal mike and loudspeakers on my computer are not sufficient, and maybe they aren’t – I may be just about to find out.
There’s new etiquette: Seems its bad form to leave the webinar before it ends. So, if the postie comes to the door, I need to urgently go to the loo or I just get bored or scared, I may pretend I had a power cut.
There’s a lot of talk about the BIG BLUE BUTTON, but I still have no idea what that does. I fear it may be like those signs on the old trains. I may have to push the button and get fined £25.
I fear I am getting too old for this game.
